Time Management Tools

by Mike Haydon on 27 March 2009

Get Simpleology
Get Action Machine

I use a couple of tools to manage my time – Simpleology and Action Machine. On Simpleology, I brainstorm the things I need to do each day and go through the daily target praxis. Once I’ve done that, I move my “to do” list over to the Action Machine program, set the estimated timers and away I go. Using the two tools in this way, I’ve greatly improved my efficiency. How do you keep track of your time?

If you'd like a tool for managing your time and projects, you can use this application inspired by David Allen's GTD:

http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage and prioritize your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version is available too.

Thanks Dan, at first glance it looks interesting. I'll have a play around with it – could be a handy addition to the arsenal.

Quite entertaining tools. Thanks for the video. How would you handle distractions throughout the day then?

My basic rule is "when the timer's running, there can be no distractions". Everything has to wait (unless it's a life & death emergency – and how many of those REALLY happen?) until my timer finishes. I close Outlook and Tweetdeck and only check them between timers. That way I get solid blocks of time without distractions to work on whatever I've said I'll do.

I wouldn't bother communicating with this Dan guy.

For a long time, I haven't seen ANY thread on anything GTD related that he hadn't spammed with his self-promotion, without ever clearly disclosing (although one might easily tell from his posts) that he's the author.

This is not against the quality of his offering or the seriousness he does business otherwise, but this kind of comment spam is highly annoying.

oh dear. I'll leave it up with your comment and nofollow the link in his comment.

Feel free to delete this. When I clicked on the second link…it was a dead end.
